Welcome

Welcome to East Coast Assistance Dogs, Inc., where our dogs are taught to retrieve items, open doors, activate light switches, pull wheelchairs, balance, brace, and perform many other highly specialized tasks through the ECADemy© training program.

We tailor each dog's skills to the needs of our Clients, who have a variety of limitations in strength, balance, coordination or mobility.

About Us
Our mission is to train and place Assistance Dogs to help people with disabilities gain independence and mobility.

ECAD was founded in 1995 and received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 1997. We have training facilities in Connecticut and New York, and have placed dogs in over a dozen states.

What's new
10/23/09: We are selling a 2010 wall calendar as a fundraiser. This calendar has our Service Dogs in training posing in school situations. The calendar makes a great holiday gift for teachers, students and dog lovers. They're just $10 each plus $4.75 shipping or $6.50 shipping for two or more calendars.

9/17/09: Rock Stars of Science. Sponsored by Geoffery Beene Foundation, whom also supports ECAD's ProjectHEAL® program. Helping Geoffery Beene helps ECAD.

Types of Dogs Placed
ECAD breeds and trains Assistance Dogs for clients with a wide variety of disabilities and needs.

Clients should have a physical or mental disability that limits one or more major life activities and that can be mitigated by use of a specially trained dog.
*** Apply for a Dog ***
To see if a Service Dog is right for you and to begin the application process, click a button below. Once ECAD has received your information, we will set up an interview at one of our training facilities. Once you complete the application process, interview, and fundraising and have been accepted as an ECAD client, we will determine when you can begin Team Training based on when we have a dog available who will best match your needs, temperament, and lifestyle.

Our Staff
Volunteers
There are many ways you can be a part of the miraculous process of turning tiny puppies into confident and mature Service Dogs.

Of course, you don't have to be a dog handler at all to help out. We are always open to suggestions about ways to involve and educate members of the community. The three main areas where we need volunteers are in Public Awareness, Fundraising and Events, and at our Facilities. Learn More
Donations
We are a non-profit organization and rely on private donations from individuals, corporations, organizations and fund-raising events. ECAD is always looking for new opportunities, sponsors and volunteers to help.
