What is a donor-advised fund (DAF)?

A donor-advised fund is a simple, tax-smart investment solution for charitable giving. A DAF can help donors make tax-efficient charitable donations, invest assets for potential tax-free growth while they are in the account, and potentially give even more to their favorite charities now or when it’s needed most. All DAFs are managed by a sponsoring organization—tax-exempt public charities that can administer any number of individual individual donor-advised funds. Sponsors include community foundations, the charitable arms of investment managers such as Charles Schwab and Fidelity, religious organizations, and universities.
